Print Quest: Kids 3D Printing Camp is a fun, hands-on week of learning designed for young makers ages 7 to 14. Throughout the camp, students are introduced to the exciting world of 3D printing through guided, age-appropriate activities that build confidence, creativity, and real technical skills.
Each day of camp focuses on a different part of the 3D printing process. Campers learn how a 3D printer works, get familiar with its main components, practice loading filament, and prepare their first print. As the week continues, they explore common filament types, learn how to choose the right material and build surface, and discover how to browse and select beginner-friendly models for printing.
Students are also introduced to multi-color printing and how systems like an AMS work, giving them a chance to see how more advanced prints are created. Later in the week, they learn the basics of printer care and maintenance, including simple cleaning and upkeep habits that help keep a printer running well. The camp wraps up with a final project and celebration of everything they’ve learned.
This camp is designed to be beginner-friendly, engaging, and hands-on from start to finish. No prior experience is required.

What kids will do each day
Day 1: Meet the Printer and Start the First Print
Campers will learn the parts of a 3D printer, how it works, and how to safely operate it. They’ll practice loading filament, opening a ready-to-use model, slicing it, and starting their very first print.
Day 2: Filament Fun and Finding Great Models
Students will learn about different filament types, including PLA, PETG, and TPU, and why choosing the right material and build plate matters. They’ll also explore safe file-sharing websites like MakerWorld and learn how to choose a model and prepare it for printing.
Day 3: Multi-Color Printing and the AMS
Campers will discover how multi-color prints work and learn the basics of using an AMS system. They’ll talk about color changes, material matching, and even the funny side of printing, like “printer poop,” while preparing a fun multi-color project.
Day 4: Printer Care and Basic Maintenance
Kids will learn how to keep a printer running well by cleaning it, checking parts, and performing simple maintenance tasks. They’ll also get familiar with useful tools and supplies that help keep printers in great shape.
Day 5: Design, Showcase, and Celebrate
Campers will wrap up the week by reviewing what they learned, creating or customizing a final project, and showing off their prints. The week ends with a fun maker showcase so they can share their creations and celebrate their new skills.
