Another Installation Video
This video is a bit older but still relevant.
This animation shows how the bracketing system for the Belt-Z goes together.
Photos in this step show Acrylic brackets, but installation is identical for the Steel brackets.
The track brackets are for mounting the boot to the
stock X/Z Carriage on your Shapeoko CNC.
You'll need an M5 hex key for this step. (not included)
Tip 1: Install one bracket at a time so your belt-cover plate doesn't have to move much.
Tip 2: In the second photo below, I'm demonstrating the slight gap between the bracket and the router mount. This way the bracket doesn't interfere with the z-axis movement.
Click on each image below to get a closer look.
In the box you'll find two support brackets with screws and plates.
No tools are required for this step.
Required: If you have steel brackets, I've included two extra M4 nuts to use as a spacer on each thumb screw. See last photo.
Tip: When setting up for cuts, you can loosen the thumb screw just enough for the support arm to slide along the bracket without removing it completely. This allows you to adjust the height of the boot to fit your needs of each cut.
Note: You may need to take a metal file to the piece of the support arm that fits into the acrylic track. Doing so will help the support arm to slide up/down the acrylic track bracket.
This is a step you'll be repeating often and is extremely easy to do.
Tip 1: The magnets will do most of the work, thus very little force is required to properly seat the boot.
Tip 2: It is handy to gently squeeze both support arms together to ensure the boot is fully seated.
Tip 3: If you need to adjust the position of the boot within the support arms, you'll need an M3 hex key. Loosen the two screws on each side wing slightly and adjust as needed.
Notice: If you have the Steel Track Brackets, you'll need to offset both wings by 3mm. This will properly align your spindle.
(See last photo below.) .
The boot is useless without a dust collection system...
Tip 1: Hold the boot with one hand and the hose/adapter with the other. Gently push them together until they're well seated.
Tip 2: If the included hose adapter doesn't fit your collector, reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org to see how we can help.
Tip 3: I'm told the adapter is a tight fit for common flex hoses, especially in the winter. You may need to take a hair dryer to your hose in order to properly insert the adapter.
This step is completely optional.
The face, although different shapes,
attaches to the boot v1 and v2 the same way.
Tip: Leaving the face shield off gives your filming equipment the perfect clean view while cutting.
Warning: I am aware of an issue in which the face can tilt upwards when moving across high profile clamps. The face does not come off when this happens, only tilt upwards and back down when the clamp has passed. Consider switching to a low profile clamping system.
